After a short boat ride from the island of Ilha Grande to the mainland and a bus for two hours we stood in Rio de Janeiro. From the bus terminal we took a taxi to the coveted Ipanema district, where we had decided to stay because it was centrally located and close to many of the major attractions. We had pre-selected a hostel with good reviews but when we arrived, there was no more room. Fortunately, the host kindly map of usa recommend another hostel as his buddy owned and where we could get a room at a good price. We were, therefore, after a while, staying us in a room with a private terrace and hammock, which was very delicious. Then we walked around a bit in Ipanema, where we looked shops, acted in and eaten some food. In the evening we sat and enjoyed ourselves map of usa on our patio while we were planning how the next two days were spent. We went fairly early to bed, because we should be ready for tomorrow's program. We had considered buying a favela tour too, but we chose to prioritize different, as we are unable to reach it all. In addition, we felt that we had experienced enough danger on our journey After Santa Teresa, we went to the district of Lapa, which is known for its nightlife, Escadaria Selaron and Arcos da Lapa. We did not experience the nightlife, but we got to see the other 2 things and eaten Brazilian lunch. We met up with our guide and his helper at São Conrado beach where we then drove together up in Floresta da Tijuca, where we had to jump off a cliff at 520 meters altitude. We were both a little nervous when we stood on the platform where we had to jump off, but the fear become quickly turned into amazement and joy! Because it was a special experience that soar above Rio, and one can understand why our guide said that after you have tried handgliding you know why birds sing. The rest of the day we spent on Copacaban Beach, where we relaxed with good food, coconut drink, the good weather and the lovely water. It is most attractive to live in the bottom of the favela, as the infrastructure is very poor. There are few and poor roads, and most live in houses that are behind other houses. You can only get there through the steep stair systems and corridors gandul in between the houses. There is no running water, run it instead into the tanks, and many roofs are characteristic blue water containers. Mail addressed to the outermost houses, and from there you can then pick up his mail, if you live "inside" gandul of the favela, and do not have an address. Although it offers a great view, so it is very difficult to stay on top.

Today was the first day in Rio. Today it has been mega hot and it was only warmer to come up in heights. But when one stands on the top of the Rio, you forget the heat and focus only on how beautiful it is. The view is spectacular and you can look out over the city - in addition, the Christ statue itself exuberant and definitely worth seeing!
Then we went down to the district of Lapa, where in addition to eat lunch (boefsandwich - definitely!) The authorities in Brazil have their hands more than full, to clean up the slum neighborhoods around Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paolo ahead of the World Cup - 2014 and the Olympic Games - year 2016. So it's literally time for 'latest news', and not just from the beautiful Rio de Janeiro, but also for our 7 months' journey. The 7 months and 10 days have elapsed, has been nothing short of incredible. And we will always remember back at them with a smile. I deny nothing. Of course there is crime in Rio. It is a huge city with several million inhabitants, some more poor than others. But like all great cities of the world must of course be careful, even when you move locations are considered as "safe". My view is that it is more risky to move in Rio than in the example. It is a myth that there is much crime in Rio de Janeiro. Like all big cities you should not move the murky places, but move it around Copa Cobana, Ipanema and Leblon, or other well-known neighborhoods, there are no problems. I was in Rio de Janeiro in September. We walked around scotland during the day and at night and experienced no problems at all. We were in several places in the city, blah. Lapa Friday evening / night. No fights or any trouble at all. I would be more afraid to walk down the street in Copenhagen on a Friday evening / night. Rio de Janeiro is a great experience. It's scotland a really cool city with some wonderful people ....

Rio de Janeiro is more than just long white beaches, samba, endless meat restaurants, caiparinha and the World Cup. During my stay here in Rio I have talked with several locals about Rio's economy, inflation, corruption and how the government "cleans" up for the 2014 World Cup?!? After it was announced that Rio was to host the 2014 World Cup, prices on goods, property, food, loans, you name it, has been raised...Everything but the people's saleries, resulting railway reservation in inflation and a hell of a lot of angry people! While the people pay the cost for "cleaning" up the city, about 500.000.000 reals have disappeared, where to no one really knows but most people would say that it goes to corruption among politicians and the higher rank in the police force. Today I went to a teachers' protest. They were protesting railway reservation for better saleries and better work conditions. As is the case with many protests, this protest started out pretty peaceful with speeches, songs and marches, but then all of a sudden, in a split second, everything went to shit! Tear gas, rocks and molowtow coctails were flying everywhere. I swallowed so much tear gas, that I puked in the middle of the street, along with a dozen others! I was with the people for almost 7 hours and after I got hit by a marble, I thought it was time to go home. Btw I made a little actionGoPro video while I was shooting.

Chrysler Building (born Chrysler Building) - a skyscraper of Chrysler Corporation , built in 1930, one of the symbols of New York.
