After a short boat ride from the island of Ilha Grande to the mainland and a bus for two hours we stood in Rio de Janeiro. From the bus terminal we took a taxi to the coveted Ipanema district, where we had decided to stay because it was centrally located and close to many of the major attractions. We had pre-selected a hostel with good reviews but when we arrived, there was no more room. Fortunately, the host kindly map of usa recommend another hostel as his buddy owned and where we could get a room at a good price. We were, therefore, after a while, staying us in a room with a private terrace and hammock, which was very delicious. Then we walked around a bit in Ipanema, where we looked shops, acted in and eaten some food. In the evening we sat and enjoyed ourselves map of usa on our patio while we were planning how the next two days were spent. We went fairly early to bed, because we should be ready for tomorrow's program. We were already up and had eaten breakfast map of usa at. 9:00 when we got booked a tour where you came around to all the sights that were worth seeing. We were picked up in a minibus and along with 12 other we should now around the RIO. On the way to our first stop, the guide told us about the city and we visited places like; Flamengo's football stadium, Rio de Janeiro Jockey Club and favela Rocinha. We stopped first at the São Conrado beach, as most of everything works as runway for the many handgliderer. Here we came in contact with a professional who offered map of usa us handgliding at a good price. An offer we could not resist and took on the following day. Our next stop on our guided tour was in the National forest Floresta da Tijuca, map of usa where among other things, so the waterfall Cachorira do Horto. Then we had one of the great highlights of our entire trip: see Cristus map of usa statue at close hand. We were transferred to some other buses, map of usa which drove up the very steep mountain, which the statue stands. Then we had to walk some stairs up before we could enjoy the beautiful view and the large statue. Here we spent a half hour before sailing on towards map of usa the oldest town in Rio, Santa Teresa. Besides old buildings, we also got vision to one of Rio's favelas, as we were taking a lot of good pictures of. We had considered buying a favela tour too, but we chose to prioritize different, as we are unable to reach it all. In addition, we felt that we had experienced enough danger on our journey After Santa Teresa, we went to the district of Lapa, which is known for its nightlife, Escadaria Selaron and Arcos da Lapa. We did not experience the nightlife, but we got to see the other 2 things and eaten Brazilian lunch. Especially the stairs was a fun experience, as Selaron had made his famous staircase with small tiles from around the world. map of usa We found indeed a tile with The Little Mermaid and the Danish flag. After the tour was real end, but you could choose to be dropped map of usa off at Pão de Acucar, which we did. Pão de Acucar also called Sugarloaf Mountain, is the famous mountain, where you will be driven up to the top and a view of the whole city, in a great ride. When we arrived, there was still light, map of usa so we had a good view over the city. We found a good spot where we sat and drank the Brazilian soft drink Guaraná. Here we sat and enjoyed in while we watched RIO switch from day to night. When it was dark we went back to Ipanema map of usa area, where we had something map of usa to eat before we slipped back at the hostel.
Next day, we were once again up early, because we had ordered a handgliding tour of RIO. We met up with our guide and his helper at São Conrado beach where we then drove together up in Floresta da Tijuca, where we had to jump off a cliff at 520 meters altitude. We were both a little nervous when we stood on the platform where we had to jump off, but the fear become quickly turned into amazement and joy! Because it was a special experience that soar above Rio, and one can understand why our guide said that after you have tried handgliding you know why birds sing. The rest of the day we spent on Copacaban Beach, where we relaxed with good food, coconut drink, the good weather and the lovely water. Since we had been well done, we went back to the hostel map of usa and pulled in fine clothes. We had in fact planned that we should watch the horse races in Rio de Janeiro Jockey Club. Here we saw 3 races before we went for a long walk back to the hostel. The last night hours were spent on that package, because we were at the airport and cold Denmark already at. 12.00 next day.
