A newly-created visualization shows the 1.7 million sq. m. of industrial and tertiary space, one million sq. ft. of office space and over one million sq. m. of parks and green space in the Airport City Alhaurin de la Torre (AGP Airport City) development.
A holding company called the Center for Integrated Services for Airport Development and Strategic detroit Impulse is spearheading the project which, they say, will contribute 4% of Andalucia s economy while providing 25,000 direct and 80,000 indirect jobs.
No comparison with Ciudad Real. There, there was no requirement for an airport so got no flights. detroit Malaga is already a reasonably busy airport although traffic numbers never did climb enough detroit to justify the second runway. What is being talked about is trying to make Malaga a hub. The catchment area is the whole of Europe, not just locally. I would like to be able to fly long haul from Malaga instead of having to connect via Madrid, Amsterdam, Heathrow, detroit Paris, Milan etc. will it work? Who knows? Part of the infrastructure i.e. runway capacity, is in place but it will be a big job convincing the airlines.
‘The catchment area is the whole of Europe’ – and yet you would prefer not to connect via Madrid but expect others to travel from Europe’s furthest corners – does’nt make sense does it.
